A Note from the Pastor

Dear Parishioners of Immaculate Conception, St. Anne’s and St. Mary’s,

November is dedicated to prayer for the Poor Souls in Purgatory.  It would be a good
idea to add, “May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in
peace. Amen.” to our normal daily prayers this month especially.

We begin November with the Solemnity of All Saints and then All Souls, and continue to pray for the faithful departed in a special way this month.  A plenary indulgence opportunity for the repose of someone’s soul is available for any Catholic in a state of grace who does the following prayers and good
works:  A Plenary Indulgence can be gained only one per day. The faithful must be in the state of grace and these three conditions must accompany the prescribed act:

  1. The faithful must receive the sacrament of confession, either eight days before or after the pious act is performed,
  2. receive Holy Communion on that day
  3. and recite prayers for the intentions of the Holy Father (one Our Father and one Hail Mary is the minimum, but any other additional prayers may be added).

All attachment to sin, even venial sin, must be absent. If one’s disposition is less than perfect or if some of the above conditions are not fulfilled, the indulgence becomes partial.

  1. These are worthy of a plenary indulgence:
Visit to a Cemetery. Only applicable to the souls in Purgatory when one devoutly visits and prays for the departed.  A PLENARY INDULGENCE is bestowed for this work each day between November 1 and November 8.
  2. Visit to a Church on All Souls Day. PLENARY INDULGENCE. A plenary indulgence, applicable ONLY to the souls in purgatory, may be obtained by those who, on All Souls Day, piously visit a church, public oratory… On visiting the church or oratory it is required that one Our Father and the Creed be recited.

Priests are allowed to offer 3 Masses on All Souls Day, according to the following
Intention Time offered:

  1. Mass For any intention   6:30 am
  2. Mass For all the Faithful Departed   12 Noon
  3. [Confession and Exposition/Adoration 5:15 pm]
Mass For the Holy Father’s intention   6:15 pm

All 3 Masses will be offered at Immaculate Conception.

Thank you and God bless,
Fr. Donovan
